Strong competition driving market performance gains

5G continues to expand, with T-Mobile leading on top-line performance, and the rest of the market playing catch-up. Fixed broadband speeds are also on the rise, driven by greater fiber deployment, and cable technology upgrades.

Speedtest® Connectivity Report | United States H1 2024 (5)

AT&T Fiber led the fixed ISP market

AT&T Fiber led in speed and Consistency among ISPs, while Verizon provided the best video experience.

Speedtest® Connectivity Report | United States H1 2024 (6)

State level performance disparities persist

Connecticut topped the state rankings for fixed broadband download speeds, with a median almost 160 Mbps faster than last placed Alaska. Mobile was a similar story, with Illinois leading, some 120 Mbps faster than Alaska.

Market Performance

Competition in both the mobile and fixed markets in the U.S. continues to ramp up. The deployment of additional mid-band spectrum has helped T-Mobile push its mobile performance to new highs, while Verizon and AT&T have also driven strong improvements over the last year on the back of additional C-band spectrum. Fiber leads the way in the fixed market, with AT&T Fiber in particular demonstrating strong performance, while the U.S. cable companies are looking to combat competitive pressure by increasing headline speeds, and bundling mobile services, in order to differentiate from 5G fixed-wireless access. Our latest Speedtest Connectivity Report highlights the key winners in each market.
